Techniques/Appliances
Find out about the techniques and appliances used by the team at the Mila Gregor orthodontic practice
1 – Removable appliance
- Enlarges the palate and increases the perimeter of the dental arch
- Increases the height of occlusion
- Corrects minor flaws in the positioning of teeth
- Is also used during the stabilization (retainer) phase to maintain the arches at the end of growth
- Practical, it can be removed for cleaning
2 – Fixed expansion appliance
- Quad Helix: slow palatal expansion
- Hyrax: rapid palatal expansion
3 – Fixed braces
Metallic braces
- Traditional system: system of wire attachment with elastic bands
- Self-ligating: system for attaching the wires with a system of locks on the appliance (more information at www.damonbraces.com)
Transparent braces
- Traditional system: the system of wire attachment with transparent elastic bands
- Self-ligating: system for attaching the wires with a system of locks on the appliance (more information at www.damonbraces.com)
4 – Invisible braces
Attractive system for adults. While effective, this system remains expensive and does not take into account the inner function of occlusion (more information on www.invisalign.com).
5 – Ancrage systems
A) the Forsus: replaces the traditional headgear.
B) Mini-implants: TAD temporary ancrage device: mechanical concept consisting of small screws that do not osteointegrate. This system eliminates compliance and shortens treatment time.
